Change of circumstances and pension date looming

hi

Just hoping someone may be able to advise me

I have been receiving standard rate pip both elements for over 7 years now and my circumstances especially around my mobility has deteriorated but I am worried about notifying them of the change as I receive state pension age in August

If the claim is reviewed after August and changed will I still qualify for pip or will they change it to DLA I am so worried about this and don’t know what to do for the best

Thankyou

Once you reach pension age you can't have your mobility changed only the daily living.

When you reach State Pension age your PIP will automatically switch to an "indefinite" award. This is a hard one for me to say what you should do as you are so close to your State Pension date. Once you are claiming State Pension you cannot change your Mobility element of PIP from Standard to Enhanced unfortunately even if your mobility condition is worse. You can only change Daily Living with a Change of Circumstances.

I would rather not say anymore on what you should do. I think it would be best to get advice from a more knowledgeable person.

Hi @cushionqueen, welcome to the community ☺️

As others have said, this is a bit of a difficult one. There may not be time now to put in for a change of circumstances in the hope of getting some more mobility support before you reach pension age. But it might be worth speaking to a benefits adviser to see if they can help you decide what to do:

Advicelocal have a directory to search for a local adviser.

Hope you can find some clarity soon.
