The amputation of my lower left leg below the knee in 2005

The amputation of my lower left leg below the knee in 2005 was tough and I overcame it. It was during my 3rd tour in Iraq during combat which there was heavy firing. Was with the unit running around and then felt one bullet hit me, then a 2nd one finally following the final 3rd one which I did fall. It did hurt and I was screaming out my lower left leg. Luckily 3 guys in the same unit saw I was down and got me to safety and one called in one soldier down. Doctors told me the bad news, could not save it due to the bone 4 inches above the ankle was destroyed and there was nerve damage. Sent to a military hospital in Germany where the amputation of my lower left leg below the knee happened. The next day I was in the dumps seeing the stump in bandages. I could not even look at it for a couple days. Thought I never walk again and things changed around in a positive way, was told I was going to with help of a prosthetic leg. They were right, two prosthetic legs were made, one with a stationary foot and one with an adjustable. Said I loved my high heeled shoes and did not want to give them up. First time walking in them gave me a new lease on life and never will forget that.

Thanks for sharing that tale @JackieLynn I've very glad it had a happy (and glamorous) ending. 😁

Doctors said I would of had problems if they tried to save it being in pain plus found infection in there. I admit it took some time getting used to walking in my prosthetic legs
