How to deal with neighbours.

so I have these very rude upstairs neighbours, every day I mean everyday there kids scream really loud outside, and the parents scream while they talk.
every Friday someone comes with a car and honks non stop like an idiot, to pick up his kids.
I am very sensitive to loud noise, and it triggers me in an alert and angry mode.

There’s no point in speaking to these so called neighbours, as everyone in the flat also hates them. I am planning on moving out in a few months, but it has been stressing me out as they have no respect whatsoever. The council won’t do anything about it either, they have been reported multiple times. But I’m starting to go insane lol.my ears are very sensitive to loud noise. So I really don’t know what to do, until I move out… which could take months.

Unfortunately Ryleyyg some people's just like that.

The law isn't really equipped to deal with such things.

Do you and your neighbours share a landlord?

That's got potential, landlords like happy customers and most will have a means of complaint about noise. I encourage you (and your neighbours) to contact them, even if you're leaving soon.

It's the only way some people will learn to be reasonable.

Someone else may know better than me, I'm not an expert.

Constant noise like that can really wear you down, especially if you're sensitive to it and there’s no real way to escape it at home. It's even worse when it feels like no one takes it seriously. While you wait to move, maybe some noise-cancelling headphones, white or brown noise apps, or even just finding quiet spots outside your home might help take the edge off a bit. You're not overreacting at all — your environment absolutely impacts your mental health, and I hope you're able to get out of there sooner than expected."

thank you I appreciate this! I genuinely cannot wait to move out! I cannot deal with these neighbours in my flat anymore.

I live on bottom floor, and the neighbours above me. Drop things sounding like bowling balls. I have banged against my roof wall for them to stop, doesn’t seem to work lol.sometimes I shout shut up. If it really irritates me.

Hopefully I can move out soon🤞

I appreciate this, but they have been reported before. By other neighbours in the flat! They also robbed my brothers bike! And other peoples stuff in the flat too! The local council near me seem to not care, maybe it’s because they have children so they get away with it easily?

Honestly my mum has tried before, and other neighbours! The council just don’t seem to be cracking down on them. They get away with everything which is super annoying! Guess I have to wait a few months and save up to move. Also I use a fan for white noise!

U can start a anti social behavior case against them but if Yr moving anyway no point x

I have excellent upstairs neighbours but the problem is their landlord who has rented out the property with a car parking place to them which blocks my exit in my power chair -

We have agreed with the neighbours to swap car places and then I get my carer to move my car back into the public paving and then back, anytime I want to come or go - not to mention blocking emergency access.

The reality is councils are less than willing to do ANYTHING and in my case they say although the obstruction is there it is a private civil matter and nothing to do with them - of course they did approve the plans for the development but failed to put int on a specific legal condition the clear planning officers recommendation that only one car should park at the property.

It seems that ass we are private not public building no legislation seems to apply unless you fork out for your own legal team and costs to fight for our access - this takes years, costs loads and even if you win it’s steaks moth time and quality of life for us as disabled people

sadly we live in an increasingly unsupportive social and political environment- we are a nuisance and in danger of turning the clock back to the old days of the 1970s

Thank you @nic21, glad I could help through another member. I like to have quiet time myself and use headphones as a way to relax through music or my favourite podcast sometimes. If not, I do enjoy walking so I just walk around and find a quiet spot and think to myself for awhile as the world goes around me.

I live in a terraced house and a lot of the neighbours around me are really noisy, it's almost always been this way since I moved here back in 1999.

First it was thump, thump music which would happen 2 or 3 times a week for several hours at a time, even in the early hours of the morning, and the next door neighbour vacuuming really early in the morning which would make her dog bark non stop while I was trying to sleep.

The dog barking went on for 2 or 3 years, and the music went on for around 10 years until the late 2000's, then everything was fairly quiet for around 5 or 6 years until my next door neighbours kid starting learning to play the guitar everyday, it was really loud in most of the rooms of my house, this went on for around a year.

Then things were quiet again for around 3 or 4 years until some chavs moved in next door to me, they made noise all the time, random bangs and knocks, shouting and swearing and huge bangs even in the early hours of the morning, and really, really loud music everyday, it was so loud it went through my house and into next doors house on the other side of me.

The music was so loud that even if I were wearing ear plugs and ear defenders at the same time I could still hear it and it was disturbing my sleep.

They would also spend so much time all day and then sometimes in the early evening constantly trying to kickstart a motorbike that didn't work, and then when it was working they'd be revving it all the time, it was really, really, loud.

Around not long after them moving in another neighbour a few doors down would let their dog into their back yard regularly every single day which would bark.

This was when I started having to wear earplugs and/or ear defenders almost 24 hours a day.

Then after maybe a year someone new moved into the house opposite the back of mine, they would leave their back door open all day, which meant from early in the morning until the early evening their dog would be coming out into the back yard barking, on and off regularly from the morning until early evening every single day.

After around 3 or 4 years the chavs moved out and no one lived next door to me for around a year, but the dog barking from the other neighbour continued.

Then new people moved in next door to me and I don't know what it is they do in there, but every 15, 30, 40 seconds it's bang, thud, thump against the wall, almost 24 hours a day every single day, it's been like this now for around 3 years, the bangs and knocks are sometimes so loud I can hear them in every room in my house, and I can sometimes still hear them even when wearing ear plugs or ear defenders if I'm in the kitchen, bathroom or living room, they will also sometimes play loud music or their TV loud as well.

Also, the dog barking from the house opposite mine stopped around 2 years ago, but would you believe it that around just 2 weeks after it stopped someone new moved in next door to her, and they started doing the exact same thing!

So for several years now it's bark, bark, bark, on and off from the morning until early evening every single day, week after week, month after month, year after year, and thump, thud, wack against the dividing wall on and off 24 hours a day every single day, week after week, month after month, year after year.

Also, the neighbour on the other side of me is having to put up with the people's dog living next door to her barking all day throughout the day every day, and their kid regulary kicking a football against the wall.

I really don't understand how people around here are able to get away with making so much excessive noise all the time, it's as though no one cares.

They would never get away with this where I used to live, where I used to live if you so much as played loud music within around 30 seconds there would be someone hammering on your door and having a really good go at you.

I've never been able to complain about the noise myself since I don't have the confidence. And I don't have the confidence, know how, or money to move away from this area, so sadly it looks like I'm stuck with all this for the rest of my life and be having to wear earplugs and/or ear defenders almost 24 hours a day for the rest of my life. It's horrible that this is how I'm having to live in my own house.

Luckily the neighbour on the other side of me is quiet, but God knows what I will do if she ever moves out because the chances are whoever moves in will be really noisy all the time, and then I'll be getting it from both sides, which will mean there wont be anywhere in my house where I'll be able to sleep peacefully even though I wear ear plugs while sleeping, I'll be getting woken up and kept awake all the time.

I would give anything, absolutely anything to move back to where I used to live.

Sorry I just needed to vent.

I really hate my Chavy neighbours. They smoke weed upstairs blasting loud music when it’s sunny and super hot.. kids screaming outside slamming doors while there parents get absolutely **** and drunk…. The joys of a council flat ay.. I’m glad I can get extra money to help me save up and move out. But I am unfortunately only on band C :/ so may take a while. I so can’t wait to live in a better flat! On my own and no loud noise! I’d feel so much better imo.

We’ve even stuck letters on doors to stop slamming doors, and they have ripped them down. 🙄

I’m saving about £300 every 4 weeks from my money, so I have enough for rent in advance and other stuff!

my upstairs neighbours blast there tv all night. I use a fan for my tinnitus to block out the ringing, I literally cannot sleep without a fan as the background noise in my flat is insane! The walls are built like cardboard it’s crazy..

The landlord has a right to act on the noise nuisance,have other neighbours complained ? Contact the environmental health department & report the problem,they will send you an incident diary to complete,if the noise continues they can supply noise monitoring equipment.i have had this problem in the past & it does cause depression,why should you have the expense of moving this is so unfair,I hope this is helpful..

nope my landlord is useless… we once had people kept parking in our spot bare in mind, we all have our own private car park spots. We confronted them about, told them to stop, and the wife tried giving us abuse, We spoke to the landlord they didn’t do anything.

Why do you think the people who smoke weed upstairs with there kids in the building, get away with it? They probably make up excuses🙄 best thing I can do is just save up and move out lol.

I've lived here in this house almost 34 yrs ,i was born into the next street where my parents still live ,the ppl moved in next to me 17 yrs ago and it was hell from the get go. 24-36 hr parties of up to 40 ppl, and not confined to weekends either, hed have mid week parties too,fights,police involvement, they got tazared, I could hear things in the house being smashed up, singing, inside the property and in back garden, screams ,constant non stop laughing, dozens of cars parked outside, Now these are ppl in their late 50s, I use to sit here crying as I had no way out.The honest truth is, I'd rescue guinea pigs, at the time, and they stressed them out so much they all lost their hair, my vet told me that was the exact reason ,I saved three of them by treatment the fourth was too far gone. The massive hutch I had was right next to the fence and they were all going mad partying behind it, I never even thought to bring them Indoors like I did in winter.

One other time there was a burnt out cigarette on top of the hutch ,I think it might have been around the time the pigs fell ill, it had burnt through the canopy over the hutch, they'd throw bottles cans, cigs over my fence, my garden is neat and tidy and I don't drink nor smoke so they weren't mine. They smoked weed too.

Anyway,Best bit to come. He won a substantial amount of money. Imagine, a low life winning so much, he bought his n hers four wheel drive cars, multiple holidays, revamped his entire house, built a concrete drinking den, a massive touring caravan, stayed another five years.. THEN SOLD THE HOUSE! Could not believe it.

All that didnt help all my health conditions i thought I was turning into a basket case. At last I'm free of them,even if they havent moved far I'm rid of them and the horrible family members and friends.
