Low folate

I've now had low folate levels 3 times. I'm calling the doctors this morning to ask why this keeps happening. My liver results are raised and my folate level is 2.3 all other blood results are normal. I eat a varied diet and I know your body needs folate as it doesn't store it for long. I've read folate can affect liver results but I'm wondering why this keeps happening, does anyone else have this happen to them.

Hi @sunshine1981, it’s good to hear you’re chasing this up with your GP, hopefully they will be able to find out why and give you some answers soon!

I have low b12 and iron, my gastro consultant got my gp to put me on tablets for both. I've numerous health conditions and two years ago I started having constant upper stomach pain and nausea, I mean the pain was off the scale non stop, I suffer from ibs and reflux but knew it was neither, roll on 18th months of sheer agony, I had bloods done, a scope test, more bloods, Ultrasound and it was found I'd a non alcoholic fatty liver. But you get little to no symptoms with that, so it wasn't coming from the liver, anyway the tests come back low b12 and Iron. Borderline coeliac, borderline inflammation, Twice. So I've had to adapt to a Gluten free diet. I'm already vegetarian then vegan over 40yrs so I'm used to a strict diet, but it's flipping expensive. The pain has reduced on the GF food. But not fully gone, anythings a bonus as the pain was horrific, I honestly thought I'd something life threatening. The ibs pain is nasty enough. So imagine both going at once or my migraine and stomach pain.i was at my wits end, So definitely go and find out ,please keep us informed. Good luck.

Sorry to hear you've had such a bad time. I have no symptoms other than being a bit more tired than normal and I've got a cold at the moment. I will let you know the outcome of the call later
