Hi, my name is Tulisan_13! If I medically retire, how do I have an income other than UC?

I want to ask, I am 49 and have been unwell with Dysphagia and thoracic outlet syndrome, spinal fusion of which has been unsuccessful at clearing the chronic pain, ADHD and very recently diagnosed Autism.

I’ve been away from my full time job a year, and after surgeries nothing has improved or is likely to improve and cannot work.
I have a mortgage and car loan and I am raising my 16 year old daughter who has DiGeorge syndrome and scoliosis on my own with no help from family or her father.
If I medically retire how do I have an income other than UC?

If you can't work then claiming benefits are your only option.

That would be UC (depending on your capital), PIP and Council Tax Reduction.

I'd recommend seeing a trained benefits advisor who can point you in the right directions with benefits and your finances such as debt repayment and budgeting in general.

You can speak to ACAS to be advised of your financial rights around medical retirement, these will vary depending on employer policy, my Mum only qualified for wages no pay out as such.

Her boss was a scrooge and kept pressuring her to just quit. With the help of ACAS and Citizens Advice she got what she was entitled too.

Your daughter might be eligible for PIP in her own right also.
