Hi Milan,

Thank you for signing our petition against benefit cuts, Milan. An incredible 100,000 of you have now added your name 🎉 You’re making it harder and harder for Government to ignore us.

The petition has already made the Government start to listen. We must keep this pressure up so they understand cutting benefits would have a catastrophic impact on disabled people and carers.

We’ll be delivering the petition to the Government later this month. But our work does not end there.

Throughout June, we’ll also:

Respond to the Government’s consultation on benefit cuts.

  • Continue meeting with MPs about why they should act against benefit cuts.
  • Continue supporting disabled people to share their stories in the media.
  • Give you the opportunity to get your MP to vote against benefit cuts in Parliament.

And we’re not alone. People across the country have been fighting relentlessly against cuts. Like this group of disabled celebrities who are sending a strong message that the Government are #TakingThePIP. And Hannah, from Mad Youth Organise, who confronted Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Liz Kendall about the importance of PIP.

We’re showing a united front, and our voices are stronger together. Thank you for being with us.

Thank you,

Mo

Thanks for sharing @MadMilan2019. It's amazing that 100,000 people have signed so far so thank you for being part of that.

I've edited your post a little as the formatting went a bit strange after being copied over from the email. Hopefully it's easy for people to read now ☺️

I am posting Mo's very good email as it informs people of pertinent stuff, and yes please, keep writing to your MP

    and the media

BUT it didn't do it; Dear Mo can you post your email sent to supporters dated May 18th:

Benefit changes the govt are not consulting us on.

this refusal to consult may be illegal; I am consulting charity disability mental health and CAB lawyers, as we live in a half baked democracy, but still. Wil get back to everyone.

What can you do about it?

    Hi Milan,

Over the past few months, we’ve been campaigning together against proposed cuts to disability benefits. Nearly 5,000 of you have responded to the consultation. But some of the most worrying proposals are not open for consultation.

What are the Government not consulting on?

    • Changes to eligibility criteria for the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Under the new rules, claimants will still need to score at least 8 points in the assessment. But they must score 4 points in a single activity
    • Scrapping the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and replacing it with the new, tougher PIP assessment
    • Freezing the health element of Universal Credit (UC)

We're concerned that disabled people and carers do not have the opportunity to respond to proposals that may affect us.

How will the Government try to implement these changes?

We’re expecting changes to PIP and the WCA to be implemented through legislation. Legislation is the main laws passed by Parliament.

What can MPs do about it?

MPs can vote against the proposals as a whole. Around 42 Labour MPs have already publicly said they’ll vote against them.

We’re encouraging MPs to speak out against the proposals and, where possible, vote against them.

What can I do about it?

Once we’ve seen the final proposals we’ll give you the opportunity to ask your MP to vote against them.

We’ll continue campaigning with you against dangerous proposals to cut disability benefits at every stage of the process, Milan.

    Thank you,

    Mo
