Transitional Protection Query

I receive transitional protection. I also receive ESA & Pip. I am in the support group. My wife receives carers payment. The transitional protection money is £700. Can I decline TP it’s too much money, i can’t spend all this money and it is adding to my savings each month. I declare my savings each month. Can I decline TP? What would UC do? Will I remain in the support group? Will I get ESA?

That's quite high for transitional protection, are you sure they have calculated it correctly @Pav38?

you get a carer element, limited capability to work and transitional protection. After the other deductions I get £700.

    Hi,

You are not allowed to decline TP or choose to alter any UC element amount yourself.

The only options are to either spend all of the money or to report your savings increase each month.

As I'm sure you're aware, if you pass £16k in savings then your UC will end. However ESA & PIP will continue as normal. You can reclaim UC again when your savings drop below £16k. Your reclaim would not include Transitional Protection, so you would get less UC from that point.
