New style esa

Hi, we migrated to UC from irESA support group. We did the id check at the job centre where upon my hubby was told he wouldn't have work commitments and neither would I because I'm his carer. We've had a letter today stating he has to attend an interview. Could someone tell me what to expect please. My hubby is so stressed to the point he's had a seizure he's so anxious.

Hi @snuggles65 I'm so sorry to read about how this has effected your partner. 😔 Is there any detail on the letter to state what the interview is for?

Hi holly
It states that my husbands contribution ESA is changing to new style ESA from the 10th June. They will contact him to book an appointment that you must attend this will be with a work coach over the phone or f2f. Work coach will explain how to complete new style ESA claim. Create an agreement called claimant commitment. They will ask him how his illness and disabilities affects his ability to work.

Hi,
This is just a generic letter. He won't have to explain his conditions or talk about work.
All he has to do is accept the claimant commitment. The commitment is just to say that you'll inform ESA of any changes, as well as informing UC.

Hi OverlyAnxious,
Thank you for your response
Will we just get a phone call out the blue or will we get another letter with a date to go to the job centre?
Regards

No problem. Generally they'll give you a specific appointment time through the UC journal. It will usually be over the phone rather than needing to travel to the JC.
