Hi, my name is Matthewsdad!
Hello to all, As you might guess I am Matthew’s dad . Matthew, like all our adult children is rather special. Matthew suffered devastating oxygen deprivation at birth , that was 47 years ago ! Despite being non verbal with arrested development he carries his burdens with a light heart and a gentle spirit.Needless to say there have been times of difficulty and he has not always been treated well. Presently he doing well, he has his own rented home and his own 24/7 care package.
Don’t think there has ever been a time when there wasn’t some issue that needed resolving sometimes serious, sometimes not so . Right now there are concerns about his funding and some health issues. As this is my first post it’s not the time to unload, just happy to establish contact.
On a general theme, I am Matthew’s 1.2 C of P Representative . I feel singularly unsupported in this role , like there’s a vacuum where there ought to be information to empower 1.2 Representatives to actually make a difference. Don’t know how I am alone with this perception?
Here’s a pic of me and Matthew being happy 😊

Hi @Matthewsdad, welcome to the community. Lovely to hear about you and Michael, and I'm glad to read that he's doing well at the moment.
I think lots of people with disabled family members will be able to empathise with the lack of support for the important stuff. I'm sorry you've been left feeling let down. I hope being part of the online community will help you find some connections with others who know what it's like ☺️
Please feel free to get involved with the community wherever you'd like and if you have any questions about anything just ask away.
