I'm homeless in three days and I am terrified of hostels.

I hope it's okay to post this. I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and scared right now. There's a real chance I might be made homeless soon, and my head is just all over the place trying to prepare for it.

I'm based in Northern Ireland and currently on the housing list. I've been told I could be placed in temporary accommodation, but no one's really explained what that means. Will it be a hostel? A hotel? Will I be safe? I have a pet too, which is making things even more complicated.

My mental health isn't great at the moment, and all this uncertainty is making it worse. I'm trying to stay calm and take one step at a time, but it’s hard when I don’t know what’s coming next.

If anyone has been through this — or knows how it usually works — I’d really appreciate some guidance or just a bit of reassurance. Anything at all. Just want to know I’m not the only one who’s felt like this.

Thanks for reading.

before i moved to where i am living now, which is a lovely flat, i lived in a hostel for 2 years, i was in a mixed hostel, youcan get same sex ones. i didn't have any problems there really and the people who worked there were friendly and helpful and once i was ready to move on they helped me find a nice flat, where i have been living for many years

that is my experience of hostel living

the only downside is living with others is that if you have disagreements you can't really escape from them, but generally arguments are sorted out fairly quickly, and you may have to pay something towards the rent (i did anyway) some hostels may be different

    Hi @Liam9529

This sounds like a very stressful situation so it's very understandable why you're feeling like this. We have sent you an email so please keep an eye open for it.
