edited July 10 in Benefits and income

I haven’t had to pay council tax ever since I’ve been on lcwra and pip and I recently passed my two year pip review ,however today I received a threatening letter saying I have missed April 2025 installments and I have until 10th July (tomorrow)to pay or I have to go to court , what should I do?

You need to contact your local Council Department as a matter of urgency tomorrow to sort this out.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level and each local authority has different rules for this. They are free to change the rules as to who gets full help etc.

The financial year starts in April, did you receive a new annual bill around this time?

As Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level, we can't advise on individual cases from here on a national forum.

Your Council website should have all the details.

I do know of a few Councils, who for the first time this year stopped disregarding PIP and started using it in income calculations when deciding what level of help to offer.

I echo Kimi's advice - your Council will probably have a phone number or online form that you can contact them on and ask for details of your situation/how it happened and why. But each region is a little different in how it administers CT.

If you have recently been through an ESA to UC migration this may have been a factor in changing your entitlement, although the Council should still have notified you of new charges to CT. Definitely give them a call tomorrow and try to straighten it out.
