ESA ...what's going on?
Hi 0😊.
Im on Contributions Based ESA. I've been on it for about 16 years. No probs. I have a priviate pension that ive also declared too.
Im a neat freak with letters and I spilled my coffee over my award letter etc. So annoyed 😒. So I called ESA and asked for them to send out a replacement letter for my recorded etc. No probs! I got the letter this morning but it mentioned my husbands name and national insurance 😯. Loke a joint claim ? Im not in a joint claim! So I called DWP and the had a look and confirmed im not in a joint claim - just a single one. He told me not to worry about it.Why does this happen? I got so freaked out. My husband works. Im only on Contribution Based ESA and my priviate pension. That's all.

I think that your hubbys income is taken in to consideration - because it has to be a joint claim
I was in a similar position to you a few years ago - claiming NI payments and they wanted to know my wifes financial status as well as my own !
I think that this is wrong but they refused to make my NI payments without my wifes income (which is/was just Carers Allowance) - albeit I was not looking at any benefits - just NI contributions !

Is this "legacy" CB-ESA or the UC equivalent?
I thought it was only when there is a UC claim that the there are joint claims. Are you likely to move to UC or are you like me and a few others around here: CB-ESA only with no UC entitlement?
I think a lot of ESA claimants are receiving letters they've never received before because the system is now geared for UC rather than various circumstances.
