Some banks can be helpful. I know mine can put a short-term 'hold' on overdraft interest, which doesn't impact credit score or cause any further 'issues'. It works OK to give a 'breather' from keep accruing interest whilst starting to tackle underlying causes/develop a plan. My bank can also offer further advice in branch and/or link to other organisations that may be able to help.
I'm glad you are trying to find some support and wish you good luck.

Apart from the CAB which I appreciate is quite far from you, if you rent your property from the council or housing association, they often have have a Money & Benefits Team who can meet you face to face.
