Am I too late to be awarded back pay carers element?
hi guys. I don’t live with my partner I spend 3 days there and four days at my parents. We are both on ADP.
he has been on ADP since October 2023.
Last week at citizens advice I was telling them about the caring I do for my partner and they told about the carer element. I was awarded the next day. I am looking to get it backdated to when he first went on ADP, however I am reading online that I there is a 13 month cutoff point for doing this and “I didn’t know carers element was a thing” doesn’t wash.
Is this the case?

When I am not caring for him I have been in and out of hospital myself for numerous appointments as I struggle medically too. My work coach knows I am disabled and I did mention my partner also was in passing however carers element has never been mentioned to me ever. I had to find out about it myself.
