Hi, UC question

Hi, my daughter is 19 and we have been getting UC for her as she has been on a FE college course. Technically this ended on the 31st August so she made a claim for UC on the 1st September. However, our payments run from the 14th to the 13th of the month and even though she left half way through we have no entitlement for the month which has just passed. Is this correct, that we will get nothing for her for the two weeks whilst she was counted as a student and unable to claim UC? Should she have bene entitled to UC from the 14th August as we have nit been entitled to any money for her?

I understand that UC don't do part months, but as the change happened half way through how do they decide whether to count her as entitled or unentitled and if unentitled can we appeal the start date of her UC?

Thank you.

    Hi,

UC is based on entitlement on the final day of the Assessment Period. So it is correct that she would not be entitled to the final month.

thank you. I hate UC we have lost out all round after being transitioned from WTC . It's a shame they didn't tell us this, she could have claimed UC herself from the 14th August. Who is meant to feed her for those two weeks 🤷‍♀️

She claimed UC at the correct time, she could not have claimed on the 14th because she was still classed as a student and a dependent on your claim up until 31st August.

thanks Kim, another illogical bit of bureaucracy from the DWP, along with treating self employed earnings month by month rather than profit for the whole year and not giving a disability element to adults.
