ESA, UC and Council tax confusion

Hi all,

I had a letter stating that due to a routine accuracy check they had identified my ESA wasnt being disregarded from my UC properly and as such my council tax support had gone up and as such I was due a refund, that was from my local council tax office.

Do I need to make UC aware? Does it mean they've been taking too much out from my deductions?

    Hi,

This is nothing to do with UC. Council Tax Reduction is done through the local council, it is them who have made the mistake here.

Your UC ESA deductions should show as £609 a month on the UC statements.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level and each local authority has different rules.

    DWP administer UC & ESA.

If you've been having £609.05 deducted from your UC award then that is correct.

Sounds like your local authority didn't calculate your CTR properly.

    Thank you!

I think the wording of the letter confused me. It said a routine accuracy check had identified that my ESA hadn't been disregarded from my UC correctly and that affected my council tax support. I just wanted to be sure it was correct, you know how council tax offices can be if you owe them anything 😂. Good news is they said i had overpaid council tax and that's a first! Thanks for your help.
