autism assessment

hi, i had my autism assessment date changed, it was previously booked for august and was going to be done by 2 psychologists. now i have a new date for october but it says it will be done by a specialise nurse, is this normal i thought only a psychiatrist or psychologist could diagnose autism. thanks

Oh what a pain @shrinkydink I'm so sorry. Autism diagnosis can be given by any specialist in autism, so Clinical Neuropsychologists, psychiatrists or specialist nurses, as long as their specialism is regarding neurodiversity. They'll usually be working under the guidance of the specialist diagnostician though. But in all honesty, I've not heard of a specialist nurse doing the assessment alone.
