    all can anyone offer advice please? We’ve had no electricity since 4.00pm yesterday and have received a message saying that we will be without power until at least Tuesday 8.00pm. I’m aware the power companies are very busy and ours is off due to a pole on our track snapping in half and laying on the wires. My worry is my husband as his dementia with Lewy bodies is particularly bad at the moment. He seems to be terrified of the dark as he is seeing all sorts of things. I’ve got candles lit and battery lights. I thought of booking us into a hotel or B&B. However he point blank refuses. Have you got suggestions please?

    Hi @westpest

    Sorry to hear this, it sounds like a really stressful situation. I hope you are okay, how are you both doing this morning?

    It may be worth calling the dementia carers support line as they may be able to give very specific advice on this situation

    @westpest

    Are you on the Priority Services Register with your electricity supplier? It’s meant for households with vulnerabilities like dementia. If not, it’s worth contacting them directly, they may be able to offer emergency support or prioritise your reconnection.

    You can check more about it in the link below.

    Hello everyone

    Thanks for reaching out to me. I can confirm that we are registered as priority customers. I’ll contact dementia carers support line as suggested. Fortunately I can see the electric company working to resolve the power issue currently. Hopefully it won’t be too long now. Thanks for all the help and advice, it’s really appreciated xx

    Oh my goodness, it's scary to think they can leave anyone without power that long!! I'm sorry you and your husband had to cope like it and I really hope it's back on before it gets dark tonight for you ❤️

    I remember power cuts happening frequently when I was a kid but they're so infrequent now I think I take for granted having electricity! I dread to think how I'd cope if it went out for a sustained period like yours has.

    We had farms and houses out for nearly a fortnight in November 2021.

    One farmer had a really bad time getting water for his cattle, what with all the fallen trees. He ended up having to drive a tractor and bowser down to a burn several times a day.

    I suppose it depends where you live. I have noticed the increase in storms the past few years. For years mention a storm, and folk reminisced about the storm of 1987, but now there seems so many to keep track of.

    Hi @westpest, do you have your power back on now?

    Afternoon

    Thanks for checking in with me, fortunately we have power again. It’s amazing how you take these things for granted. So the house is lovely and cosy again and we don’t need to live on soup and sandwiches.

    Honestly I am so relieved.
