The Gunpowder Plot

A painting of Guy Fawkes. A white man with long brown hair, mustache and beard wearing a large black hat and old fashioned clothing.

On this day in 1605 a group of Catholic conspirators were poised to blow up parliament. However, a Lord received a letter warning of this which he passed to the Protestant King's Chief Minister.

The plot was foiled, a shoot out took place, and half of the plotters were killed. The other half, including the infamous Guy Fawkes, were captured. They were tried for treason, and executed that next January. That very same month, the Government passed the "Thanksgiving Act" which established a church celebration each year on this day.

Celebrations today!

A community of people standing around a bonfire and watching an array of colourful fireworks.

To this day, many of us all around the world still celebrate this occasion by the bonfire and fireworks with community, family and friends.

It's one of my favourite events of the year. To wrap up warm by a bonfire and watch some amazing firework displays. ๐ŸŽ† And they get more impressive each year! I also quite like a sparkler ๐ŸŽ‡, even though I'm definitely too old now. ๐Ÿ˜…

Will you be celebrating? We'd love to know your plans!

We'll be enjoying the fireworks from the window this year as my daughter is too young to go to a bonfire. Our neighbour has a huge bonfire every year with lots of fireworks which I was looking forward to - but they did it last weekend and I missed it!

Pouring with rain here, i wonder if the fireworks will even be on tonight? Gus doesn't bother in the slightest about them, what with us living on the edge of a large MOD training area.

It's been the same here up until early afternoon. That's good it doesn't effect Gus @Chris75_. You've just reminded me I dropped the ball there not adding some info on how to help keep your dogs calm so sharing this link for an article posted earlier today which might help our dog owners - 3 simple ways you can keep your dog calm during fireworks | Express.co.uk

I always remember because itโ€™s my birthday 5th of November. Maybe itโ€™s my calling to get rid of this current shower of government. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
