UC LCWRA and CA Question

After an accident at work, a severe back injury and now a couple of years on UC ADP and LCWRA my ex has advised me he is struggling so badly with Self Worth, Depression and budgeting the little money he has. He was a worker his whole life until a job asked him to lift heavy steel when a machine didn’t arrive and already having arthritis of the spine he damaged his back so badly. Anyway fast forward. He currently received UC for a single person over 25, LCWRA and Adult Disability Payment.

Our son has complex health issues - but not physical. He gets full Child Disability Payment and has done for nearly 8 years. I work full time so no one has ever claimed Carer Allowance for him.

Can dad claim this CA? I think it’s £80 odd per week. His dad has him for 48 hours per week over 3 days.

Unfortunately if he gets LCWRA claiming CA wouldn't increase his award. CA would be deducted from his UC and he wouldn't get the carer element of UC because he already gets LCWRA.

Are you claiming UC? If not, could your ex add your child to his claim? It would mean he gets the child element and child disability elements added too ❤️

If OP is classed as resident parent, then ex will not be able to claim any child elements.

Hi @DC2180 and welcome to the community. I'm sorry your ex had to go through that and is struggling. Our members have given some great advice there so I won't add anything else.
