Would I need evidence for pip?

Hi, I applied for pip 2 years ago but got denied a year ago, my family who was the appointee said I could do more than I actually can. My family never helped me get support for my condition even though I was house bound for years because of it, becauae of this I’m worried there wouldn’t be much evidence of how bad I am. If my condition is on record but doesn’t show any support for it is that good enough evidence? I recently got referred to mental health team and went to the assessment but never went to the next appointment because no one would take me and I can’t do things alone, would that be evidence to back up my claim if I was to apply again? If I start another claim would I be able to change the appointee after I started a claim?

All you can do is explain in as much detail as possible how your condition effects you and give examples such as the one you did. Evidence is important. You can ask your GP to provide your medical records via a subject access request. I was able to get mine emailed to me so could help. Also if you can't go out the royal mail now do pick up service from home.

There is a strange thing with family members. I am now effectively housebound and totally reliant one on family member yet they still continue to deny the severity of my conditions. In fact the phrases they use often sound like they could be a PIP assessor! I'm constantly trying to work out why they do it. I don't know whether it's simply denial because they don't want to think about my situation being so bad. Or whether they genuinely believe they are right about my situation, and that I am therefore wrong about my own body and my own circumstances. Very strange!

Anyway, PIP evidence can take various forms. Technically you don't need any external evidence if you can provide enough real world examples for evidence. But the problem with this is that you won't have real world examples of things if you can't do much in the first place. I don't have any real evidence from GP or health services myself because I can't access those due to my conditions. So I was awarded based mostly on my own writing, although I had to go all the way to tribunal for that. Scored 0 points at the first assessment and MR.

@duucjeiric Believe it or not but some family members could be and are jealous you could claim PIP….

Put in a new claim but do it yourself. Describe in detail how your disabilities affect you. Your GP could provide evidence. You could mention about the mental health appointment you could not attend as an actual example. Actual examples are good evidence. Not everyone has professional evidence as you don't need a diagnosis for PIP. You can get help to fill out the PIP form too from the likes of Citizens Advice. Put in a new claim, as you can do.
