I got the results of my assessment yesterday and was told that it had been decided that I must start looking for a job. I have got hydrochephalus and it has left me with brain damage that affects my understanding of instructions, coordination and speech and my short term memory is very bad. I am affected by it everyday but it seems that everything I have told them has fallen on deaf ears. don't they understand that some people have mental disabilities, it seem unless your disability is visible they assume there is nothing wrong with you! I am also a bit confused as to whether my fit note which by complete coincidence was added to my journal yesterday before the dwp made their deciision still covers me or is it dismissed.

The WCA decision overrides the Fit Note.

You can appeal the decision, step 1 Mandatory Reconsideration (asking them to look at the decision again), step 2 independent appeal tribunal hearing.

I find this assessments so difficult because of course not every disabled person will meet their criteria but when rejected it feels so personal and as though they've not at all understood what it is to be you. I think hidden disabilities are so misunderstood and dismissed and it can be so hurtful. If you're appealing, be sure to look at the criteria and what they are looking for so you know what you are actually arguing for.

That makes no sense! I can't see how the dwp have the authority over a doctor but obviously they have! I have contacted the dwp and asked for an explanation of the decision,

Hi @Anhedonia I will look over their decision carefully and will talk to someone at the CAB before I do anything. I can also go and see someone at my local mental health centre who may be able to advise me,

I'm sorry they've come to this decision @deb74, I can't imagine how stressful this is for you. I'm glad you've contacted the DWP. If you're happy to, we'd love to know their reply. It may help other people in similar situations.

Do you feel you're getting enough support?

Hi @Rachel_Scope. I contacted the dwp to find out why they came to that decision. and see what I failed on. When i have got that information I will be happy to share it. I wish my work coach hadn't arranged for the assessment because if she hadn't I would still be covered by my fit note which should have covered for the next 3 months but it has probably been thrown in the bin now!

It doesn't seem to make much sense does it? I wish they made the process clear from the start and less stressful.

I appreciate that you'll share their response with us. It's always good for us to get members experiences so we can help people in the future.
