Change of circumstances

hi all

Hope all is well

I am totally upset and feel frustrated and let down

I have brought my son up as a single mum for 15 years

about a year ago I transferred to UC

My son left home on 22/12/25 to go into 24/7 care , this has been heartbreaking and hard for me

I reported on that day change of circumstances and my assessment period for that mth ended 6 days later .. 28/12

When paid they did not consider my son was with me just 6 days short of full assessment period and I got standard single payment early Jan

I have asked for mandatory reconsideration as I feel this is really unfair

My sons new claim indedependant of me won’t be paid until 29/1 so it’s not as if overpayment would be done

I have rang for advice and the advisors just read what’s been put in my journal to me, they don’t know about any policies

I just feel let down that I have been disregarded like this

I had no idea all my sons money would be stripped for the whole of that mth

Had I of I would have delayed his going few days .. my mum is 86 and very ill and I longed to spend which may be her last Xmas with her and I couldn’t as my son too challenging and unpredictably can be violent ,hence I chose 22/12

Sorry to be going on

I just feel so anxious and feel this is unjust

With regards

S

Unfortunately the change of circumstances applies to the whole assessment period in which it's reported. Thus your circumstances on the last day of AP are what your payment is based on.

UC don't do partial payments etc.

This is how Universal Credit has been designed, all I can think of to suggest is feedback to your MP.
