Lwcra and new style esa

Hi posting here as we are unsure what happens after receiving lwcra.

So my husband is on ssp and it’s due to end in the next 9 weeks from his employer , he had his work capability assessment just before Xmas and found to have lwcra and doesn’t need to hand in sick notes .

Reading online it says he can apply for new style esa 13 weeks before his ssp ends but is it correct that only benefit it does is gives him 1 national insurance credits ?

So we are on universal credit , I have lwcra as well and now he has lwcra too, we have a 12 year old as well , we both receive adp he has standard living and I have enhanced mobility also he has a family member caring for him and they recieve carers allowance .

Looking about he would go into the support group on new style esa as he’s had the capability assessment? And of he receives any disability premiums will these both be taken off our universal credit and paid seperate ?

Sorry for all the questions it’s just first time claiming benefits in 30 years.

Yes he would go into the Support Group for New Style ESA.

No disability premiums are paid with New Style ESA.

It would be deducted in full from your UC award.

Yes it pays Class 1 NI Contributions, other advantages are it's paid fortnightly & isn't means tested.

Thanks for your reply on this matter . He’s not been told to apply for esa or that it was just me looking about on google to see what happens after his ssp stops .

I am guessing he would be advised to apply for it when his ssp ends ?

Employers aren't necessarily benefit experts, the onus is on individuals to find out about entitlement themselves.
