annual Rent increase & DWP UC

How confusing & stupid is it that YOU are notified3-6 weeks before 6th April what youre new rent increase will be . You go to inform UC & get told you cannot do it until 6th april as their system will not except the change or increase. SO EVERYONE WILL BOMBARD U/C WITH NOTIFICATIONS and they expect to check and confirm and administer it to cover the end of the month of April 2026 statement and 1 week b4 due date. Its bad enough that they are, UC incompetent to manage it before the change and wonder why they are overloaded with work when they are un-in dated with the increases. THERE WILL BE ALOT OF MISTAKES AND ERRORS administered and the only person to suffer will be the claimant. sheer madness. Does anyone have the same opinion or am i being just thick that administering something before. would help the system to run smoother especially as most people in march would expect that increase to be administered and actioned for their statements that are due mid to late april which seems plausible to administer as we all know its done by computers and most mistakes and errors are done by the person/persons at U/C-dwp and the only person effected is again the claimant and the stress levels can be overload because of them

I get where you’re coming from, and it is a common complaint. Unfortunately, the UC system just isn’t set up to handle changes in advance, it’s not built into the software at all.

It would make more sense if people could log the change early and have it automatically applied from the correct date. It’s one of many, many ways the system could run more smoothly, but it simply wasn’t built that way and can only handle changes after they've happened.

I've had issues with rent increases where after my declaration on the appropriate date my landlord reported the wrong amount to UC or took an excessive amount of time (AP 26-25) to confirm the new rate directly with UC. I did receive the underpayment promptly once it was confirmed.

So from my perspective the UC system works, it's the other side that haven't performed well.

That’s an excellent point @Kimi87. Quite often, housing associations and landlords take a long time to verify changes, which ends up holding everything up. I imagine that’s partly because they’re also inundated with requests from UC and their side is not automated.

They do get things wrong quite frequently too. The UC side is largely automated, and issues with rent amounts often come from the landlord side rather than UC itself.

If the UC system allowed changes to be reported in advance, it might help the situation. Landlords would have longer to respond to requests, and the workload could be spread out over a longer period.

You can make changes to your UC account online any day of the month, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and they will action it in working hours.

I tend to make a note in my journal before the actual 6th, so as I get the notification from my housing, I write a note and its there. When the 6th arrives, or the appropriate date, I upload it as the system requests it from you. I could be imaging this, but I'm sure at some point in early UC you could add the information early, then it changed and you had to add it at their request. I might be wrong and dreamt it all!! Lol😊

That won't work. You can only make the change after it happens. You will have to phone them on Tuesday 7th instead.
