Could someone please advise - council tax reduction
Hi so was getting 75% council tax reduction 2 years back, It went to 50% last year and I just found out yesterday that it’s now lowered to 25% help despite no changes in the household.
I have health problems and cannot work on LCWRA currently. My partner stopped work to care for me. We have one child.
They use to calculate, child and standard elements on UC weekly plus carers allowance weekly, these three added together, the total is sitting in bracket of household 1 child = 25% help. Last year them 3 totals added together put us in 50% bracket.
It’s going to be a further push to find the money we are already in a vulnerable bracket. I’ve always agreed to pay council tax and be good citizen previously working but I’m shocked my council keep eating away at our and our sons money to live on as well as the carers money for doing that job. Next year it’ll be no help! If that’s the case then that’s it but it seems a bit dodgy .

Hi @jaisouls, sorry to hear this has happened to you. Council Tax rules are often decided locally rather than by government, so they can vary a lot from council to council. Unfortunately, it can make it difficult to find advice about it unless you speak to local advisers who know the system.
One avenue might be to speak to your local MP to see if they have any advice or guidance about it.
If you're struggling financially, you might also like to look into whether there are any charitable grants available to help you:
Hopefully there's something there that might make things easier on you.
