Students and UC (taking a break from studies)
Hi all. I'm reading and re-reading the UC rules and not getting anywhere, so hoping someone might have experience. Our son was on LCWRA before he enrolled at uni. After 6 months, because he received a loan and so was a £0 entitlement, UC closed his claim. He continues to receive PIP. 18 months on (now 2nd year) and his ME has flared badly, so he may have to take a break from studies. His uni have agreed a year out, or 'intermittence' and he will stay registered as a f/t student. The rules say that a f/t student cannot claim UC unless they were assessed as LCWRA and in receipt of PIP (or DLA) prior to the start of their course. But, because UC closed his claim, does that void that - so meaning that he can't claim anything?

Students & Universal Credit are a complex area to give advice on. I'd recommend contacting Disability Rights UK who have a Disabled Students Helpline.
