Hi all my son (16) is in full time education and has started a part time job. I have messaged uc, but just wondering if this effect us in any way. He is keen to do extra hours in half term etc does this matter? Also does any one know how this effects child benefit, I have read something about working 24 hours or less a week, but half term this may happen please help!

@clarap123, as your son is 16 and still in full-time education, his part-time job won’t affect your Universal Credit. His earnings aren’t counted as part of your household income, so he can work without it reducing your UC payments.

The same generally applies to Child Benefit. As long as he remains in approved full-time education, you can continue to receive it. The “24 hours a week” rule usually refers to education, not work hours.
