Question about claiming carer's allowance

Hoping someone can help as scouring the Internet for an answer is coming up fruitless.

I've been claiming UC for some time, currently have a award for LCW (Not LCWRA) and struggling to make ends meet as we all are currently 🙄

Ive been caring for my sick mother for the past few years, with the increase in fuel costs recently I find myself slowly unable to do this as it's just unaffordable. She has mentioned carers allowance to me again recently and honestly I just dismissed it years ago because, from the information I could gather I would be financially worse off for claiming. (£1 for £1 reduction)

After trying to do some research this time around, I'm still no better off so I'm hoping someone here can clear up the confusion!

Just need to know if I will be receiving more money if I claim for carers allowance or if the deductions from my UC(LCW) will make me financially worse off. I can just about manage poverty on £400~ pcm, but would be much happier actually being able to eat during the week 😅

Many thankyous in advance 🙏🏽

I'd contact the DWP on Monday (they don't work weekends) and explain your position/ask them what to do.

Hello @Ins1992 and welcome to the community.

To answer your question fully I'd need to know a few more details.

On your UC statement, do you receive any money for LCW? Some people whose award began before 2018 do.

If not, does your mum clain any benefits at all?
