Next door driving me mad.

I live in a housing association property which to divided neighbours is a 4ft fence .All like this. Which is ridiculous. The joined semi has a mum in her early thirties I think who is pregnant again by her new boyfriend. She has a 7 year old boy who loves football which the ball constantly comes into my garden every day. I mentioned about putting some netting up .she said she's getting a 6ft fence whether that's true or not won't be yet. It hurts my shoulders having to chuck the ball back over. I try my best in my garden to make it ok despite pain and limits movement in joints. I'm also apprehensive about being out there if the boy kicks the ball and I get hit by it.

I have printed off from amazon about some netting to stop football going in the gardens. Should I give it to them. They also smoke weed which wafts over and is disgusting.

    A very delicate situation, dealing with neighbours is never easy at the best of times.

    In my opinion, posting stuff through their door will likely cause offence, however well your intentions.

    Have you had a word with the housing officer? In the end, it all depends on how much you value your neighbour. The HA can maybe put a stop to it, but you may lose your neighbour for good over it.

    Report their weed smoking to the police. I'm not against drugs but I've had to put up with the smell of weed too wafting into my house almost everyday when I have the windows open, I'm able to smell it really strong all over the house, it's just yet another invasion.

    A delicate situation that could escalate. There is the option of the HA or the council (statutory nuisance) for the weed but this will open resentment on their part ?

    If they are open to a dialogue over the fence, can you tell them how much the smoke is affecting you ? As an ex smoker even I think modern day weed smells disgusting

    I fell out with my neighbour years ago because of her son damaging my plants with his football and her music.

    Her way out was to report us to the HA for excessive noise in the middle of the night

    Soon sorted when all the other neighbours wrote a supporting letter, that they never hear a thing and they were the nuisance

    Hopefully yours are more approachable and reasonable. Always worth a quiet friendly word IMO

    Unfortunately, even if you report it the HA will do 2 things, sod all and nothing.

    Because they don't have the resources.

    That's not true of all Housing Associations. Mine are very proactive. Every summer they provide 2 large skips for the estate of 20 houses to clear any rubbish. Repairs are carried out within 2 weeks of reporting them … large and small. Grass is mown, communal car park cleared of debris blown by the wind etc every fortnight

    With a portfolio of over 4,500 I think they do brilliantly

    But then I'm sure there's others who treat tenants as a cash cow … maybe more so in cities ?
