UC transitional protection

Does anyone know the rules for Transitional Protection calculations? We migrated from Working Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit and receive a Transitional Protection element (around £500 per month). Our child is finishing education soon, and after we report the change we will stop receiving the child element (we have one child). What happens to the Transitional Protection element? Does it stay at the same level, reduce, or disappear completely?

    Hi,

    Transitional Protection should stay at the same level in this case.

    It was initially based on the total amount of legacy benefits that you were receiving. It's not linked to any specific UC element.

    It will just erode every time you get any increase in benefit rates. Or if you start getting any new UC elements. Or changes to Housing Costs if applicable.
