My GP has contacted the DWP, local MSP and MP.

I have been made redundant 4 times now from my most recent employments. I have severe anaphylaxis due to allergies, anxiety, being hearing impaired- Right ear. My GP and myself have sent this email to the local MSP, MP and DWP regarding this fact. I cannot keep a job due to when I have an anaphylactic attack and suddenly the employer no longer wants to deal with my health at work. They obviously can't say I'm losing the job because of my medical condition so instead I've been told 'you don't fit in here' which is worse for me because it makes me think I've been doing the job wrong.

Here's the email;

I am writing to you as my local MSP to ask for your advice and support regarding the significant difficulties I face when trying to enter and remain in employment.

I genuinely want to work and build a stable and independent life for myself. However, I have severe anaphylaxis due to multiple allergies, which makes seeking and maintaining employment extremely difficult. Despite this, I continue to apply for jobs and make every effort to work. I have managed to secure employment on several occasions, but unfortunately, I have subsequently suffered an anaphylactic reaction while at work or away from work. Following these incidents, I have found myself either being made redundant or being told words to the effect of, "you don't fit in here."

The result is a very difficult cycle: I find employment, something happens relating to my allergies and anaphylaxis, my employment comes to an end, and I am then left without an income or a job. I then have to start the process of looking for work all over again.

I understand that reasonable adjustments may need to be made in the workplace to enable me to work safely, and I am more than willing to discuss and work with employers to find suitable solutions. What I would like is simply the opportunity to remain in a job for long enough to establish myself, build up some savings and have the financial security to progress with my life.

My GP has advised me to contact you to see whether there is any support, advice or assistance available that could help me overcome these barriers to employment.

I have also recently received a decision from the DWP stating that, as of 11 March 2026, I am considered fit and capable of working 36–40 hours per week. In many ways, I am very pleased about this decision because I want to work and I want to be financially independent. However, I find myself in a frustrating position: I have been assessed as capable of working full-time, but I am struggling to find an employer who is willing and able to employ me and support the adjustments I require.

I am not asking to be excused from working. Quite the opposite — I want the opportunity to work. I simply need to find an employer and workplace where my circumstances can be properly understood and where appropriate adjustments can be put in place so that I have a realistic opportunity to remain in employment.

I would therefore be very grateful if you could advise me on:

- Whether there are any Government or local schemes available to help people with disabilities or medical conditions overcome barriers to employment.

- Whether there is any support available to help me find an employer who is willing to make appropriate reasonable adjustments.

- Whether there are organisations or employment services you could refer me to that could advocate for me or help employers understand how they can safely support me.

- Whether there is anything you can do to raise my situation with the relevant Government department or employment services.

- Whether there are any additional forms of financial or employment support available while I am trying to establish myself in sustainable employment.

-Whether an email or letter to the DWP regarding my case can be made, to site how hard it is and can be for people with extra life long conditions to stay and find work.

I am determined to work and I do not want to spend my life repeatedly losing employment because of circumstances that I am trying my best to manage. I want the opportunity to earn an income, build savings, become more independent and move forward with my life.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, assistance or signposting you are able to provide. I would also be happy to provide further information about my circumstances, my DWP decision and the difficulties I have experienced in previous employment if this would be helpful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my email. I hope you may be able to help me find a way forward.

Let me know what you think and what I can do regarding my health and trying to work.

That looks like a fantastic email @EllisBoyfield, I hope you get a good response from it. It's a really difficult position to be in. As you say, it's difficult to find employers who are flexible when it comes to the reality of employing people with health conditions and disabilities. While reasonable adjustments help a bit, it doesn't always mean that employers are fully understanding.

The Scope website has some links to disability-friendly job boards in case that's helpful to you: Finding disability-friendly employers | Disability charity Scope UK

It's a tough one though and I sympathise. Do you have an idea of what kind of work you'd like to do?
