Mandatory Reconsideration Decision

Good Evening All

Hope you're all doing well. I have a genuine question RE: Mandatory Reconsideration Decision.

I undertook my assessment with Capita around May 2026 this year. I scored zero in everything which was a disgrace.

I lodged a mandatory reconsideration around July 20th this year via post. I was in the process of being diagnosed of ADHD at this point.

I took my ADHD assessment on Sunday 13th September and i was diagnosed with severe ADHD both inattentive and hyperactivity.

I was made aware that a MR manager was allocated to my case on Wednesday 16th September 2026 (same time i sent off my ADHD report through the post to DWP by special delivery). I informed the MR manager not to review the case until the ADHD report got delivered the next day.

The ADHD report was delivered on Thursday.

The mandatory reconsideration manager made the decision on Friday 18th September 2026 and sent the letter out RE: my decision in post on Saturday 19th September 2026

I am concerned because i haven't recieved a letter yet. I do not know what the outcome is. I've not recieved any monies deposited in my bank account

Should the money have come in by now if i was successful?

Thank you

Joseph

Hi @Joseph7, welcome to the community. It does occasionally happen that money arrives before the decision letter, but that's not usually the case. You could try the online proof of benefits service to see if that has any updated details for your claim:

Get proof of your benefits and State Pension - GOV.UK

Sometimes the online updates come in quicker than the postal service can deliver the letter.

You could also try ringing the PIP enquiries line. Sometimes they can tell you whether a payment is due which can give you a clue as to whether you have been awarded or not.

But if neither of those work, it may just be a case of waiting for your letter unfortunately. Hopefully it's on its way and you'll get the result you're hoping for soon!

    Hi Rosie

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, i have recieved my Mandatory Reconsideration letter and they have awarded me 0 for everything which is soul destroying

Their rationale is so bland it doesn't even look as though they've taken my occupational health reports, family/partner letters, ADHD reports in consideration. Its so brief and succint.

    I feel failed

    Any advice for tribunal?

    Hello @Joseph7

Unfortunately the majority of Mandatory Reconsiderations do not result in any change. The good news is that success rates at tribunal are much higher.

For your tribunal it's important to understand the areas in which you feel you should have been awarded points but haven't been.

Hello @Joseph7 and welcome to Scope 😊

I've never heard of 'severe ADHD' but I don't think it equates to severe disability in a DWP assessment, if that's where your confusion lies. Sorry.

I'm not saying don't take your case to a Tribunal (you should), I'm saying there's no automatic entitlement to a disability premium based on an ADHD diagnosis!
