Getting help if you feel suicidal

Struggling with your mental health can feel frightening and isolating. But there is help available. The community is here to talk things through if you're going through a rough time, but sometimes you might need some more urgent support.

Urgent support if you are in crisis

If you are in crisis or struggling with suicidal thoughts and don't feel you can keep yourself safe, please seek emergency help. You won't be wasting anyone's time.

If you don't feel you are at immediate risk:

  • Call 111 and select the mental health option for advice and guidance
  • Or use NHS 111 online to check your mental health symptoms and be guided through what to do next
  • Speak to your GP and ask for an urgent appointment - tell them that you are in crisis or having thoughts of suicide
  • Talk to your Community Mental Health Team if you have one
  • Speak or text with someone from a mental health support line

Coping while you wait for further help

Mental Health Charity Mind have some tips and distractions to help you cope while you are waiting for help. You could also read Mind's page on how to cope with suicidal thoughts.

Please consider telling someone how you are feeling. This could be a trusted friend, family member, a stranger, or even someone on the Online Community. Reaching out can feel scary, but it's often the first step to getting some support for what you're going through.

Getting help for someone else on the online community

If you see anyone on the community who you feel might need some mental health support, please use the 'Flag' function under any comment or discussion. You can also send a message to our @Community_Scope account, or tag us in a discussion. The Online Community Team will get in touch as soon as possible to offer support. Thanks for looking out for others on your community!
