Has anyone applied for Access to work recently, or had a review of an existing award? I got offered a job last week but Iβm trying to get an idea of how long people are waiting at the moment
Hi @youglo and welcome to the community. Congratulations on the job! How are you feeling about it?
I haven't personally applied for it but looking online it seems there is a significant backlog and it could take up to 37 weeks. However, as you are a new starter, your application will be considered a priority. I'm not sure of the waiting times in this case. There's more information here https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/access-to-work-grant-scheme
Hi
I've recently TUPE'd across to a new organisation and my previous employer refused to allow the equipment to transfer with me.
I have had to make a new application and have been told the same as the other commented, there is a 37 week wait for an assessment, this doesn't include the time to receive the report and to buy/have made the equipment you may need.
You can (under many circumstances) ask for it to be fast tracked. This usually means you'll get an assessment within a month.
You need to call them with your case number (which is given to you when you made the claim) and they're pretty good
Hi @youglo, congrats on the job! I work as an Access to Work support worker and run a small neurodiversity organisation, so I deal with these claims day to day. A few tips from that side:
Apply now, before you start. You can apply if you're starting within the next 12 weeks, and new starters are treated as a priority.
When you apply or call, make it clear you're a new starter and give your start date. As herbie said, it's worth phoning with your reference number to ask about fast-tracking.
Don't wait for Access to Work to sort everything. Your employer has its own duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act from day one, so ask them directly for anything simple (equipment, changes to hours, written instructions etc) while the claim goes through.
Keep a note of every call: date, who you spoke to, what they said. It really helps if things stall.
Good luck with the new role! If anything comes up with the claim or the assessment, post here and I'll help where I can.
Hello @NickNDHelp and welcome to Scope.
Brent is certainly a diverse community but I wonder if you meant an organisation for neurodivergent people?
Haha fair point @WhatThe π no David Brent diversity training here !! I meant an organisation supporting neurodivergent people, bad wording on my part and grammar/spellcheck!. π
Thank you @NickNDHelp βΊοΈ language matters.
