Overpayment of Tax Credits
Could anyone explain what this means in relation to an overpayment that I am paying back.
" If you claimed tax credits as a couple the amount showing is what you and your partner owe at the date of this letter. we've also sent your partner a Notice to pay letter, showing the joint amount you owe. However if your tax credits award ended due to a claim for Universal Credit or if Universal Credit has been claimed after tax credits award ended, the amounts shown is what you personally owe at the date of this letter"
As i did claim UC and tax credits stopped does this mean that the amount owed was reduced to 50% of the total as my ex would also owe the same amount in the letter.

That wording is confusing, isn’t it! I’d be tempted to give them a ring and ask them to confirm exactly how much you’re personally responsible for, just to be on the safe side
hopefully someone who’s had the same thing might be able to shed some light on it!! 😊0 -
Hi @KRLG
As justj74 mentioned above, it sounds like the best thing to do is to contact Universal Credit directly. They should be able to give you some peace of mind about your balance and confirm exactly how much you owe😊

Thanks Justj74 & Mary_Scope
Did contact HMRC who are even more baffling when you ask for details I don't have much to pay now, it was just that the 50% rule when separated/divorced should have been applied as I did contact HMRC at the time
HMRC have said will send out details in approx. 2-3wks
Thanks again both of you for taking time to respond
