How can our leaders put this kind of news on the back burner?
The last piece of ice from the glacier.
All we need is for the world's competing countries (and their associated industries) to all agree to be nicer to the planet instead of more wealthy.
Simple as that may seem however, I'm not yet aware of any fixed plans for precisely how we plan to all just get along nicely together.
Good luck all

@Littlefatfriend - I have probably as much faith in **** sapiens sapiens as you do. âšī¸ We can hardly claim we weren't warned.

In my opinion ChrisR777, it's all just biology and fortune.
I like to consider that my age (53) and interests (principally psychology, science, and fast cars, but I have others) have allowed me to understand quite how staggeringly unlikely modern life really is. Not the bad things, but the good things. There are so, so many that could have gone wrong or been just a little different and life could be vastly worse.
I think the song "Some people have it worse than I" by Tim Minchin describes my relation to the human condition well (and he's an extremely capable comedian and musician).
In that circumstance I try not to judge people for the sometimes stupid things they do. I've never even been king, prime minister or president of a country, I don't know what that's like.
I can imagine but I'll probably be wrong, at least with details. I can imagine the hive mentality that will exist around those people, from their advisers and expert consultants to their voters. Getting together with people in groups is great fun but groups often do stupid things because they egg each other on.
I think it'd be interesting to wipe us out and give the octopuses the opportunity they've been waiting for, they have multiple brains and could be a great candidate for most intelligent species here.
Unfortunately by definition I wouldn't see that happen, but I don't allow that to worry me.
If I can fix a problem I will. If I can't I'll never worry about it, there's nothing I can do to improve things.
I'm not urging anyone to panic @Littlefatfriend, certainly not over something as large as man made climate change! I have never considered it a bad thing to stay as informed as possible, even if powerless to stop it.
Knowledge is power.
That's extremely worrying @ChrisR777. I'm not sure how much change we could really make now with the way AI and technology are growing.
My earlier article makes the assertion that we may be doing permanent damage going past 1..5C, even if we then drop back below. The climate scientists the article refers to, they say we need back to 1C, maybe even 0.8C.
The value must be greater than or equal to 1.
