I am writing this in the hope that someone can advise me. I am 59 years old and have cerebral palsy. Ever since I have a school, I have lived with my mother-42 years total. My mother was also my main carer. Unfortunately, 4 weeks ago my mother died.
My questions revolve around how I maintain my independence, in the light of my change in circumstances.
I am fairly independent. Dressing, washing et cetera I am independent. The big thing that I cannot do is food and drink preparation because of my coordination. I currently have carers coming in morning and evening, for breakfast and evening meal. They also make me a flask of tea. However, there are 2 problems with a flask of tea. Firstly, I cannot pour the tea into a mug, my mum used to do that. This was important because the tea will cool down in a mug. Now, I drink directly from the flask, using a large straw. The problem is, even with the lid, of the flask, off, it does not cool down. They carers make the tea, in a jug. Now they let the jug sit a while but the problem is this is just guesswork
I should point out that I live in Scotland.
Any advice? Thanks
