Benefits entitlement after a stroke

My friend is self-employed as a coach, tutor, public-speaker etc but just had a stroke last week and is still in hospital. I'm trying to help find out what benefits and help he is entitled to to aid his recovery.

thank you Steve, Ami and thespiceman. He and his wife are both self-employed so now the reality of cancelling work, having no income and needing lots of resources and support is kicking in... it's a case of knowing where to turn and what support in terms of finance and resources are available. He wants to be at home, but... I'm believing for total restoration, but meanwhile the practical considerations are rather overwhelming for them. Any advice or sign-posting very welcome. x
