how to reduce blood pressure

Hi, for the past month my blood pressure has been very high. My doctor have today put me on some medication they want to try.

They have said about reducing my salt intake but not sure what they mean. So, I am wondering if anyone has had high blood pressure and what they have done to reduce it which includes changing their diet
