Hi @tulisapavloff1 :) I think it probably depends on how much your dad pays for the house, including bills and rent or mortgage payments. Have you asked him how much he spends, and how much he'd like from you?

@tulisapavloff1 just ask your Dad to make a list of the outgoings from the property ,and come to an agreement what you will pay . My 25 year old son and i did a list , we found it easier doing it this way.

I must admit, that does seem rather a lot if you buy your own food as well. If that included your food then it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe speak to him and ask if he can reduce the amount, or at least include your food in with what you give him.

One of my sons used to pay £30 a week including for his food. It was a token gesture really because it didn’t  pay for much but £400 is a lot imo.

I do find this an interesting thread, but i do feel there will be no right or wrong answer.
When i lived at home many moons ago, we paid a percentage of our pay packet.

When i joined the world of adulthood, met my partner, got married and shared our first flat together.
What an eye opener to realise how much things cost etc, we thought we'd never survive but we did.
Had three children, we didn't wont to rely on their money, as we thought we'd miss it when they finally left the family home, we wanted them to be happy and experience buying their first car and their first holiday abroad with their friends.
Now they have all flown the nest and have had the same experience as we had many years ago, but like us their surviving but i will say we've had more money since they left ha ha.
