Are SDP backdated payments made to claimants who receive ESA and DLA?

I understand that SDP backdated payments are being made to claimants who receive Employment Support Allowance with a qualifying benefit such PIP. Are SDP backdated payments made to claimants who receive Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance? Any information on SDP and backdating criteria would be appreciated.

You qualify for SDP in your ESA if
- it is income based ESA,
- you get Daily Living PIP, or the care component DLA at the middle or higher rate
- you live alone (or any other adults also get a disability benefit) and
- no one receives Carer’s Allowance or the carer element of UC for looking after you.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I hope SDP can be backdated to when I was awarded DLA. I get the IB ESA and no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after me.0

If your ESA is Contributions based, whether you're entitled to the Income Related top up, which can include the SDP will totally depend on your circumstances.

I see. Thank you very much. I will phone ESA office and ask. Tried phoning a couple of times last week but after an hour each time I gave up. Will try again.0

If you can answer these questions then we maybe able to tell you if any of your ESA is Contributions based, Income Related or a mixture of both.If you're in the Support Group and you receive £114.10 per week then this is Contributions based/New style ESA. Anymore than this and it's very likely to be part Income Related.Do you live alone?0

Of course it is possible that if it is contributions based the addition of SDP to calculation might give rise to income based entitlement. (Not applicable for new style ESA.)0

Yes, live alone. I get ESA with a mixture of both components.0
