Hello , I’ve been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia last year at kings college hospital last year April . I’m 52 and over the past 3 months the episodes have been increasing with more spasms of electric shocks, spasms of pain and discomfort in the cheek and chin area. Currently not working was wondering if I should apply for any benefits , if so is Trigeminal Neuralgia accepted as a form of permanent illness etc thanks

Hi,Entitlement to any benefits isn't based on any diagnosis. Personal Independence Payment (PIP) isn't means tested so other income/savings/capital do not affect the amount you maybe entitled to.Whether you qualify will totally depend on exactly how your conditions affect you against the 12 PIP activities. A successful claim could potentially take at least 10 months.See link for information. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/severe-disability-elementWhether you're entitled to any other benefits such as Universal Credit will totally depend on your circumstances. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.Put your details into a benefits calculator to check entitlement. If you can't do this then you should speal to an advice agency near you for a full benefits check. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=ba03309c-5182-4026-99b3-917e15e6bb44

A warm welcome to the community from me too @andresalem
I'm glad that the information poppy123456 pointed you towards has been helpful! Have you had a chance to take a look through it all, and give the benefits calculator a go?
I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some health troubles, and that your symptoms have been worsening lately. Are you receiving enough support to help you manage your symptoms?0 -
Thank you very much for your concern Tori about your concern about my trigeminal neuralgia. I just booked into for another CT scan to observe a potential recurrence of a cyst which was previously removed together with one of my molar teach . With regards to the pain from the TN this has been booked for September at to the pain referral unit to discuss the management of pain which is at a on and 6-7/10 . What kind of support does your organisation offer . It has becoming apart from pain quite emotional with good and bad days knowing it is a long lasting and chronic situation . Thanks again for your support . Kind regards Andre
