Blue badge appeal/hidden disability

Hi everybody

so I’m not too sure where to start really feeling quite deflated and a little bit overwhelmed so I’m just looking for some light-hearted advice please

so here goes I suffer from numerous mental health conditions that stop me on every day basis

I also received both parts of personal Independence payments
I applied for a blue badge from my local Council about four weeks ago I heard back around two weeks ago asking me for more information because I fall under the hidden disability act which I was very aware of

So I ask a family friend to help me fill in the forms to return them as I do suffer from dyslexia as well so it’s very difficult for me to do application forms at all if any

And going through the application form a very much describes how my mobility is regarding walking which I completely understand that’s part of the application form but I am applying on the hidden disability I don’t have much issue when it comes to walking my mental health depends on how I am on the day so I can’t go shopping of a pain any food or do any unfamiliar journeys on my own
I feel like the form they sent me was very old school and not much about hidden disabilities which I found quite bizarre

i’m just wondering what right I have to appeal because I called my Lego castle today to be informed that my application has not been eligible for a blue badge which I find very bizarre because I feel like I fall under a lot of categories on the hidden disability

I called my local council today to be informed that my application has not been eligible for a blue badge which I find very bizarre because I feel like I fall under a lot of categories and a Hidden disability I.e. I have severe mental health issues depression anxiety compulsive disorder and body dysmorphia are you so the score 10 on the mobility part on PIP for unable to follow any unfamiliar route without another person present/guide dog

I just feel like maybe the application hasn’t been looked at properly and all the information provided has not been taken into account I feel deeply upset about this and I’m just really upset do I have to keep explaining my hidden disability to everybody and people just don’t seem to understand
I just feel like maybe the application hasn’t been looked at properly and all the information provided has not been taken into account I feel deeply upset about this and I’m just really upset and I have to keep explaining my hidden disability to everybody and people just don’t seem to understand
For example one shoe does not fit all and I feel like in this situation I’ve just been looked over and my mental health is completely disregarding and the whole point of me apply for a blue badge so when I have panic attacks and unable to get to my destination I can’t be around people in large groups anxiety takes over my whole life

Any helpful advice would be really much appreciated

Also I would like to add I was not automatically illegible because I didn’t score 8 points and moving around I scored 10 points on the section of the mobility unable to follow a journey unattended without anybody/guide dog

@poppy123456 I wonder if you can advise me on this You’ve given me great advice in the past

To automatically be entitled to a blue badge for hidden disabilities you need to score points in activity 1E “ cannot undertake any journey because of overwhelming psychological distress”

Yes you can challenge this decision if you think it’s not correct. You need to concentrate on what exactly happens when you go out and how often you have the panic attacks. Give as much detail as possible. Why would a blue badge help?

What evidence did you send? Can you get people that know you well to write supporting letters for you?

I’m no expert with blue badge applications because my PIP award has automatically entitled me to one. My daughters PIP award doesn’t qualify her because she scored 12 points under following and planning a journey but she doesn’t go out without me so no need for a BB for her.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

@poppy123456 thank you so much for your reply I really do appreciate all your advice

Yes I definitely will channel is the decision is to categories under the mobility part Yes I definitely will Challenge   the decision is to categories under the mobility part there is one part where it states unable to undertake any journey because of psychological distress

and there’s another part which I scored 10 on where it states cannot follow any unfamiliar journeys but can follow a familiar journey

to be honest I feel like I didn’t send enough information and even explain myself properly because I had a disability form they sent me out it’s very small and it was more to do with walking instead of actually hidden disabilities

Yes I can ask friends and family to write in detail what is actually like to be on a daily basis

I struggle so much being around people usually cause my compulsive disorder

Every day is different with my mental health sometimes I just can’t do anything I get so nervous and anxious anxiety takes over my whole mindset I get extreme overwhelmingness distressed

Every day is different with my mental health sometimes I just can’t do anything I get so nervous and anxious anxiety takes over my whole mindset I get extreme overwhelmingness distressed

Especially when it comes to Parking I feel like I need to be closer to the shops/my address the fear of seeing people being a big groups of people give me so much anxiety and over wellness and causes me so much psychological distress

especially when it comes to Parking I feel like I need to be closer to the shops/my address the fear of seeing people being around big groups of people give me so much anxiety and overwhelm this causes me so much psychological distress And especially when I’m having anxiety I feel like I just need to go home so I need a parking space just next to my house easy access for me when I am struggling on my bad days with my mental health

@poppy123456 The evidence I sent I don’t think it’s too much there’s a little description I don’t think I explain myself well and thorough I did send my PIP award and basic doctor GP records but that was it

Your PIP mobility award doesn't automatically qualify you for the BB because you scored points in activity D.
The chnages to BB rules for hidden disabilities are as follows...
you receive the mobility component of PIP and have obtained 10 points specifically for descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity, on the grounds that you are unable to undertake any journey because it would cause you overwhelming psychological distress
These rules apply to England. When applying if you don't automatically qualify all local Authorties have their own rules.

@poppy123456 thanks. For that information so just to clarify is there any point for me to tell us the decision

still feel like I come on the hidden disability act Extreme anxiety and depression maybe not automatically qualified on the mobility part I do think I have a strong possibility to challenge the decision

No worries. You can see the specific criteria for your local Authority here. https://apply-blue-badge.service.gov.uk/applicant If you put your postcode in it will tell you the criteria under the "you may qualify part"

Not totally relevant but I remember reading a while ago that the Council Assessor for a Blue Badge failed one individual from the start based entirely on the type and make of car that they were driving it was some sort of high end very low to the ground performance car!
