lcwra help. Has anyone else had to wait 6 months before they get their payment?

hi I recently got awarded lcwra payment , i asked when i would be paid my first payment and the jobcentre lady said you have to be in the LCWRA group for 6 months before you get a payment! so i wouldnt get one til december/january ! i thought it was 3 months from when you first gave a sicknote in which i did in may and was approved for lcwra in june, it just doesnt seem fair that you have to wait that long! has anyone else had to wait 6 months? any help would be appreciated

That’s incorrect. You should be paid the LCWRA element from the fourth full assessment period after you reported your health condition, provided you have supplied continuous Fit Notes.

thats what I thought! thankyou, i will have to ring them, I'm due a payment on the 3rd so I will see what goes in, but i thought that seemed like a long time, thanks.

d applies.  This means that the increase is not available for the first 6 months that you spend in the LCWRA group.  Because your decision began in June your increase should be available in the December or January payment

What date exactly did you report your health condition (or send your first fit note)?

hi it was april the 22nd that i first gave a sicknote

That means your waiting period will be April/May, May/June, June/July.. LCWRA starts from AP 28th July to 27th August. First payment 3rd September. This means it should be included in your next statement, which will be in the next 3 or 4 days. No LCWRA element is owed.

Thanks guys, unfortunately I haven't been able to get through by phone or journal on UC and my statement says that I haven't been paid the LCWRA element 😞 but I still don't understand why I have to be in the LCWRA group for 6 months before I get a pay increase ( relevant period?) She called it I'm so stressed 😪

The relevant period is enshrined in legislation. This rules mean that you cannot be paid the LCWRA element until the fourth full assessment period after you first report your health issues supported by Fit Notes. (I don't know why the message you received referred to six months.)

Thankyou, that's what I thought , it's so frustrating as nobody ever answers my journal enquiries at UC, I've sent a message everyday sometimes 2 but they ignore them 😪

Yes it's very frustrating I just wish somebody would answer me at UC they just ignore all my messages 😪

@natdb The job centre or work coach are not all well versed in rules and regulations. I was given so many different answers by different work coaches and quite a few statements were incorrect, so although I know you are probably worrying, I am a worrier also, try not to as in this case, the 6-month wait you were advised is incorrect. If no one is giving you answers and continue to ignore you then you are perfectly within your rights to raise a concern/complaint.

If you haven't already then request the MR on the decision not to start your LCWRA element from the 4th AP. You can also contact your local MP. Give them all the information, including the date you reported your health condition and the dates of your assessment periods. More of than not, this does get them shifted. https://www.parliament.uk/about/contacting/mp/
