Carers allowance backdated question

Hello.
I have a question regarding backdated pay for carers allowance. I was awarded carers allowance but at the time did not realise I could request for backdated pay. After calling I was advised to re-submit a claim form and request from 3 months prior which I did but have not yet heard back. I have been caring for my father for 2 years and during those 2 years I did not claim for carers allowance, partly because I was more concerned with helping my father and I had no idea I could actually claim for such a thing. I am still caring for my father but my question is can I request backpay for 2 years?

Thank you very much.

You can only backdate a maximum if three months unless you are claiming within three months of your father being awarded the qualifying disability benefit in which case you can backdate to when that benefit began.

Note that if you receive Carers Allowance your father will lose any Severe Disability Premium if he is receiving it any benefits that he receives.
