My Husband has recently applied for carers allowance, 28th August.
Subsequently our UC has been reduced to reflect carers allowance (which I understand) my issue/question is....
He hasnt had any confirmation of receiving CA, he hasnt had any payment from CA - upon calling CA the they said 'UC take it just incase you do get awared CA'
Is this normal procedure?
We are nearly £300 down this month from UC.
Many thanks.

I've never heard of them reducing UC before there's an award in place because as you said you are that much short each month. I would put a message onto your journal under the payment section and tell them there's no carers allowance award yet and ask why that amount has been deducted.Does your UC include the carers element? If not then your husband needs to report a change of circumstances and tell them he's a carer. They will then add this element which is an extra £168.81/month. (providing he doesn't receive the LCWRA element for himself)Just so you're aware, you don't need to claim carers allowance to be able to claiom carers element.1

My Husband got through again to CA, second person says he isnt eligible for CA as he receives ESA - so chasing UC now for an explanation.
Can he still apply for the carers element if receiving ESA?0 -
The ESA he's claiming would be New style ESA and this is classed as an overlapping benefit with carers allowance and they can't be paid together. He can claim carers element providing he doesn't receive the LCWRA element on your UC for himself because the same person can't receive both elements. As he's claiming ESA has he had a work capability assessment yet? If so, what was the decision of that?Is he caring for you because you're claiming a disability benefit? Does he claim a disability benefit for himself?0
