Hi, I was wondering if someone might be able to help please. I am currently in receipt on carers allowance and income support. I was awarded pip last month and have the disability premium added on to my income support.

My husband helps me alot and we are considering him putting in for carers due to his caring for me. ( my carers is for my 14 year old so it does not contradict  my issues, I dont have to heavy lift ect"

I was wondering if my husband put a claim in for carers, i was awarded in beginning of August with the award from the mid of May 2022, if we were to get back pay from my pip award (may) how will the over payment be taken from income support? Or would there not be any back pay as it will go straight back to income support? I really hope this makes sense lol

Thanks in advance ☺

The PIP payments don't impact your IS, they are ignored.

If your husband claims CA he can backdate it until the start of your PIP award..

He will be paid arrears of CA which will be deducted from the IS but your IS will have carer premium added. He should just be paid arrears of the difference between the full UC and the carer premium.

In future your IS will be less because h gets the CA but as a couple you will be better off.
