Just wondering if anyone here is planning on having an advent calendar this year, and what kind of advent calendar will you be getting? Have you had any good ones in the past?
They seem to be big business these days and we have moved on from just chocolate ... you can get advent calendars with whisky in them, beauty products, and even cheese. Some of them can cost hundreds of pounds.
My highlight from the past is that I have had a Cognac advent calendar which was really good fun but I think I'm going to do without the encouragement to have a drink every day this year, plus there is the cost aspect.

Yes, some of the prices are very steep. I like the idea of a wellness advent calendar with some form of self-care for each day, I shall have a google and see what I can find.

That's a really great idea @elizabeth01
Perhaps we could do one on the community, too?
I'm just planning on getting a chocolate one this year @66Mustang, but I've heard there are some interesting ones about. @Alex_Scope mentioned one to me the other day that she'd found, so she may be able to tell you about that1 -
I got gifted a spirits one last year but I think this year I’ll not have one at all lol.1

I always buy a few of the beauty ones, some are great value, others not so good. We also get the cat and dog ones.1

I don't really bother with advent calendars I don't recall having one as kids, maybe they wernt about then1

I went Christmas shopping today with my 2 girls and 2 grandchildren. While we were out we popped into the Yankee candle shop and they had their advent calendars out on sale. One of my favourite things is yankee candles so i couldn't resist treating myself to one. A little expensive, though it was reduced from it's usual price but well worth it.

When my boys were younger they used to get the lego advent calendar.
Once my Grandson is 5, I think I will get him this also. That's if he is into lego that is.
I love the chocolate ones.0 -

Won't bother this year with going away0 -
My daughter has a full on tantrum if I don't buy her a chocolate one .....she's 38 with children of her own, but if I forget to buy her one.....2

Good question @66Mustang I've been having a search and preparing early! There's certainly a lot out there beyond chocolate as you say
I've found an 'escape room' advent calendar, a game where you get clues each day to help find Santa's golden book so he can deliver all the presents on Christmas Eve! It sounded quite fun and unique, so I got it for my partner.
During my search I also found pop corn, hot chocolate, wine, and even crafting advent calendars, some are more pricey than others...0 -
I've been pining for an advent calendar and BOOM-there one is!
Merry Advent!

That sounds different @Alex_Scope
We don't have them now, we used to get the lads them when they were younger.
Many moons ago when i was a child Mom and Dad always brought us all one, never any of these fancy ones they were always religious ones x0 -
I can certainly appreciate the more religious ones too @SueHeath, sometimes Christmas can be over commercialised.
Having a simple advent with a new picture each day would probably be really beneficial for reflection, a boost to mental health perhaps!0 -
You have got me thinking now @Alex_Scope i'm wondering what sort of reaction or chats a religious advent would have with all my grand children,x0
-
we still get my son a chocolate one, those other types sound good though0
-
There are so many good different types of advent calendars! I would have to agree with @Grinchy though, nothing beats the classic chocolate advent calendar0

That's a great idea @Madrokaleb - by the way welcome to the group.0

Got toby a pringle one for something different0
