I am about to come into some inheritance, we both get esa and pip we both have small pensions , i am buying a campervan for uk holidays but want to keep some aside for being able to go out for a meal / holidays/ treats when im on old age pension , i am currently age 62 yrs and get pension age 67 i think. How much can i have in savings for these things and still be able to claim eg housing benefit later ?? Ive got nhs pension gives me £280 pm, my husband. Army pension which if he dies i get half he was in for less than full claim  . Worried about being left alone and not being able to have holidays or treats to make life worth living. Would welcome advice, thank you.

What is your ESA is it contributions based/New style or Income related? If you’re not sure you will need to contact ESA to ask.
If the inheritance is more than £16,000 then entitlement to all means tested benefits ends, this includes housing benefit. For saving of less then £16,000 every £250 or part there of over £6,000 there’s a £1 per week deduction.
For council tax reduction some local authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000.
    PIP is not affected.
